In Tuesday night’s First Look episode, fans saw Gemma’s character Carmel McQueen tragically die in a train crash and now, the actress has commended bosses for supplying her with a dramatic exit.
Digital Spy reports that when asked if she was disappointed about being killed off, Gemma replied: "No, not at all. I've been in the show for eight years and I decided at the beginning of the year that I wanted to move on to some new projects and find myself a little bit.
"When I found out about this storyline, I just thought it was amazing. It was the perfect way to end Carmel and say goodbye, and for the McQueen family to carry on.”
While Gemma is yet to reveal what she has planned for the future, it’s rumoured she could be a surprise addition to the ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here’ camp.
Sadly, Carmel isn’t the only McQueen departing the show, as Jennifer Metcalfe, who plays Mercedes McQueen, is also leaving the soap.
Fans are still waiting to see Mercedes’ fate, and there has been plenty of speculation over whether she’ll die.
Watch 'Hollyoaks' on Channel 4 at 6.30pm tonight to see the action unfold.
