Shopping for a baby's first Christmas present is lots of fun, but the sheer variety of cute teddies and toys on offer can be a little overwhelming.
If you want to get something that will be truly appreciated it's worth bearing in mind that this is one milestone that will mean a lot more to parents than it will to the baby.
For those under 12 months, Christmas Day is a day like most others, which passes in a blur of feeds and naps - actually put like that it's not so different from how most adults spend Christmas day too!
Babies are likely to be more entertained by the boxes and wrapping paper than by any of their actual presents, so it's wise to buy gifts with mum and dad in mind.
Don't be afraid to ask them what they want or need - rather than seeming unimaginative, this is likely to be greeted with relief, as they've probably got quite a long list of things that would be more useful than a fifth set of nursery wall stickers.
Something practical with a fun twist is sure to go down well, such as embroidered muslins, a comedy bib, cute outfits or a storage chest in which to keep some of the toys that will soon be mounting up.
It's nice to mark the occasion with a personalised gift like a baby's first Christmas bauble. Or if you can't resist the draw of a cute toy, then those with bold bright colours, flashing lights, interesting textures and mirrors will go down a treat.
