Space-Age Shower Uses 90 Per Cent Less Water

Space-Age Shower Recycles Your Dirty Water

Showers may not be the most romantic of tech subjects, but they're an area that's just waiting for technology to come in and stop them from destroying the planet.

That's why Orbital System's shower is incredibly cool (and important). It uses 90 per cent less water. That's right, 90 per cent.

Developed by OrbSys CEO and ex-NASA employee Mehrdad Mahdjoubi, the shower takes inspiration from those being developed for the trip to Mars.

Using a two-stage filtration system, the water is collected at the bottom where it's instantly passed through a complex series of filters which take out the larger and then the smaller contaminants.

A pump then sends the crystal clear water straight back up into the hose. Rather astonishingly this then results in an 80 per cent retention of heat, so you wouldn't even need to do much to warm it back up.

It's available to pre-order now and while it isn't cheap (over £2000), just think of all the water you'd save.
