“When I first saw [Caitlyn], all I wanted to do was give her a big hug. It was such new information.”

However, Esther admits she is still not used to using Caitlyn’s new name and, adjusting her use of pronouns.

“It takes some time getting used to. I've called [Caitlyn] Bruce since the day he was born. It's going to take some time, but I will adjust,” she said.

“I love her. And she's happy. That's all that matters,” she added.

Back in April, Caitlyn - who was then still known as Bruce - revealed in an interview with Diane Sawyer that she didn’t have the closest relationship with her mother, due to her struggle with her gender identity, though in her accompanying Vantiy Fair interview, she admitted that her mother is "extraordinarily open-minded".

She explained: "Once they meet you and they spend five minutes with you, they go, 'Oh, OK. I get it. Big deal. Let's go on with life...And I think my mum will kind of be the same way."

Caitlyn went on to recall a conversation they once had, where her mum told her: "You know what? I think I can have a better relationship with Caitlyn than I can with Bruce."
