A non-profit organisation helping people to live happier and more fulfilling lives has taken to Crowdfunder to secure over £22,000 of funding.
Action for Happiness run community courses that explore the big questions in life, like what really makes us happy, and how can we create a happier world?
"All around we're sold bad ideas about what makes life good. About having more and earning more and looking more perfect," says Action for Happiness' director, Mark Williamson.
"But this shallow game isn't make us happy. It creates stress and anxiety, it makes us selfish instead of kind and it leaves us feeling lonely and meaningless."
And that's why Action for Happiness have created an eight-week course called 'Exploring What Matters'. Based on psychological research, the course is designed to make you happier and more compassionate.
During each two-hour session, volunteer course leaders will help people to learn simple techniques to boost their mood, reflect on their own experiences, listen to expert advice, and engage in group discussions about what really matters.
Alex Nunn, head of movement building at Action for Happiness said: "We've developed this fantastic eight-week course that helps to people bring people together to explore those bigger questions in life, and gives them opportunities to take action out in their communities."
The project has even got the support of the Dalai Lama, who said: "As patron of Action for Happiness I am delighted to see the work being done by members of this movement to create a happier and more caring society.
"I wholeheartedly support the ‘Exploring What Matters’ course and hope that many thousands of people will benefit from it and be inspired to take their own action to help create a happier world."
Action for Happiness is another in a long line of community success stories from Crowdfunder, who provide a platform for anyone to make a difference.
Graeme Roy, Crowdfunder's head of local innovation said: "Crowdfunder is all about bringing communities together - Happier World is doing just this, crowdfunding to provide a course to lead people towards happier lifestyles.
"Not only are the team raising the funds they need to help create a better world, they are also raising their own profile, reaching out to new audiences and creating an even bigger community along the way. Ultimately - they'll be able to help even more people to "become the change they want to see in the world."
Action for Happiness are just under £15,000 shy of their initial target of £35,000. They hope that with additional funding they'll be able to train volunteers to run the course in the communities that need it the most, all around the world. Find out more on their Crowdfunder page.
