‘EastEnders': Whitney Dean Actress Shona McGarty Praises Danny-Boy Hatchard For Lee Carter Depression Storyline

'EastEnders' Actress Praises Co-Star Ahead Of Male Depression Storyline

‘EastEnders’ actress Shona McGarty has praised her co-star Danny-Boy Hatchard, for his portrayal of Lee Carter.

In recent months, viewers have seen Lee struggle to cope with his depression, after leaving the army, and his illness is set to persist.

Whitney and Lee's relationship will be tested

Speaking at an ‘EastEnders’ press event, Shona praised Danny-Boy for his efforts with the storyline, explaining: “I know Danny-Boy has done loads [of research]. He’s brilliant, he’s taken it really seriously.”

“Whitney’s doing everything she can to help him through it.

“Depression isn’t something that just comes and goes. It’s an ongoing process so she’s trying to be there for him without getting Mick involved because Lee feels he wants to be a strong son.”

Shona also hinted at what’s to come for her character, who will be spending Christmas with the Carters, revealing that she hopes Whitney will bond more with Lee’s mum Linda.

“I don’t think linda knows just quite what Whitney’s gone through [with Bianca’s ex, Tony]”, she added. “And I think viewers will hopefully see that. I’d love to work with Kellie Bright more.”

Lee previously discussed his depression battle with his mum, however since then, things have worsened.

The storyline will develop in the run-up to Christmas, and there’s also drama ahead for other Albert Square residents, including Stacey Slater.
