It will be preceded by a single of the same name, out on 20 November.
David revealed the news on his official Facebook page, following various false reports about his new material.
The track ‘Blackstar’ previously served as the theme tune for Sky Atlantic drama ‘The Last Panthers’, starring Samantha Morton and John Hurt, and was his first original music for a film or TV show in 20 years.
The album is the follow up to Bowie's 2013's ‘The Next Day’, which topped the UK charts and reached number two in America.
It was recently confirmed that David is also writing a song for the new ‘Spongebob Squarepants’ musical, along with the likes of John Legend, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, Cyndi Lauper, TI and The Flaming Lips
