Shakes Mashaba has been fired as Bafana Bafana coach following his disciplinary hearing. The official Bafana Bafana Twitter account confirmed on Thursday that Mashaba was sacked with immediate effect after being found guilty of misconduct.

"It is regrettable that we had to face the events of the past month at a time when the national team is experiencing a resurgence in its quest to qualify for the 2018 Fifa World Cup," said South African Football Association (Safa) CEO Dennis Mumble.

Mashaba was suspended by Safa after allegedly publicly insulting its president, Danny Jordaan, following Bafana Bafana's 2-1 Soccer World Cup 2018 qualifier victory over Senegal.

A hearing took place over five days into Mashaba's conduct. The football association confirmed Mashaba was found guilty of misconduct, insubordination and violating the Safa communications policy.

The Bafana Bafana Twitter account confirmed that the process of recruiting a new head coach was underway.

Mashaba, who was rumoured to earn R500 000 per month, had a contract that was only due to expire after the 2018 Soccer World Cup in Russia.
