- The ANC Women's League (ANCWL) has made it clear that it will not back any female presidential candidates other than Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
News24 reported that the league's president, Bathabile Dlamini, said presidential hopefuls Baleka Mbete and Lindiwe Sisulu must not expect support from the ANCWL in their presidential bid.
She was addressing a media briefing at the weekend on the sidelines of the KwaZulu-Natal ANCWL conference.
"We are happy that more women are availing themselves for leadership. But as the women's league, our mandate is clear and that is we will back Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma," said Dlamini.
"Our position is clear, we want 50-50 representation at all levels, it is not just about the presidency," Dlamini said
The league threw its weight behind Dlamini-Zuma at the beginning of the year. Much of Dlamini-Zuma's public appearances are done in conjunction with and hosted by the league.
