The City of Jo'burg has given the Gupta family 30 days to submit amended building plans for illegal building extensions at their Saxonwold Mansion, which takes up an entire block in the leafy Johannesburg suburb, according to IOL.
Without the amended plans the Gupta household could end up being knocked down, authorities say.
The sprawling property is 170m² more than allowed by the local zoning laws, and other violations include the breaking of height restrictions, contraventions of the Architects Act, and the number of dwelling units per site.
Neighbours of the Saxonwold property that the "very rude building[s]" are a "living nightmare."
The residents complain about the balconies from the house looking directly into their living areas, and some residents are now demanding compensation for the "loss of value, privacy and amenity" to their homes and lifestyles, saying they were no longer able to enjoy their pools and gardens owing to the "triple-storey monstrosity."
HuffPost SA contacted Gary Naidoo, spokesperson for the Gupta family, for information about the submission of plans, but has received no word yet.
