Manana faced two counts of assault with intent to cause grevious bodily harm for hitting a woman at the Cubana night club in Fourways last month.
The video footage went viral on social media, with many South Africans expressing their disappointment and disgust.
After initially defending himself, he eventually apologised for his actions.
Manana handed in his resignation after immense pressure from the public and various other organisations.
