Outspoken ANC MP Dr Makhosi Khoza on Thursday broke down in tears as she announced she would be resigning from the ANC.
"I tried to serve with honour, and dignity, the best I could... I am joining the people who want to protect this country." she said at a media briefing in Rivonia.
"Standing here today, I tell you I am taking with me the good ANC I know...As I break my silence, against the deceit of the ANC, I do so in defence of all men, women who fought for this country...I want to make it unequivocally clear: I am not joining the Democratic Alliance."
She labelled the ruling party as an "alien and corrupt" organisation that did not value or respect intellectual women."
Khoza was charged by the ANC in KZN for bringing the party into disrepute and ill-discipline after her numerous calls from her for President Jacob Zuma to step down. Zuma has been plagued by several scandals and Khoza felt he was not fit to remain in office.
Khoza has endured weeks of harassment by members of the governing party and was removed as chairperson of the portfolio committee on public service and administration owing to an "irretrievable breakdown of relations between herself and ANC members of the committee".
She also received death threats,which Police Minister Fikile Mbalula claimed were made by a teenager with no affiliation to the ANC.
At the briefing, Khoza said: "I still don't have my ANC membership card. Why? Because they don't want voices like mine to be heard... Yes colonialism, apartheid oppressed us, but it is more oppressing when your own comrades oppress you with corruption."

Khoza's announcement took place at the historic Lilliesleaf Museum in Rivonia -- where 19 members of the ANC were famously captured by apartheid security police.
"People of South Africa: this ANC will not self-correct...We have seen how the ANC are willing to deploy severely incompetent employees to strategic departments...I am told that this ANC can still self-correct. This new alien ANC is delusional if they think they could."
