A coal company, owned by billionaire Joe Singh, is alleging that it paid ANC Youth League president Collen Maine R500 000 for him to provide a "political solution" in securing the company's contract with Eskom.

In a report by the Sunday Times, Just Coal says Maine never made good on his promise even though the money was paid.

Maine reportedly negotiated the half a million as a donation to the youth league to make sure that Just Coal's R8-billion contract with Eskom would not be cancelled.

Maine confirmed to the Sunday Times that the league had received the donation but denied having promised to secure the contract.

The company has since approached parliament and the courts in a bid to reinstate the contract.
