Eating blueberries and strawberries could help prevent memory loss in old age, according to a new report.

The authors reviewed a number of studies to analyse the strength of existing evidence that suggests berries can help prevent cognitive decline, it was reported by ScienceDaily.

It has long been known that berries are rich in antioxidants, which protect cells from free-radical damage. But the new research found that they can have a direct effect on how neurons in the brain send signals.

A previous report found that overeating could double the risk of memory loss while another recent study suggested chicken, eggs and milk could sharpen the memory.
