The Best And Worst UFO Sightings Of 2014

These UFOs Really WERE Too Good To Be True
|

UFO sightings happen every day. From the oddly shaped cloud to a powerful storm movement it's hard to wade through all the nonsense and find those genuinely interesting cases.

It becomes even worse when you start seeing including all the hoaxes. People are really really good at faking UFOs.

To celebrate this ever-increasing art, we've collected both the best and the worst UFO sightings we've noticed this year -- whether they be an act of creative lying or outright skill with a camera.

Best UFO Sightings: Crap or Creative?
There Is A Castle On Mars(01 of05)
Open Image Modal
There is definitely a castle on Mars. Don't believe us? Well just LOOK at the evidence, it's undeniable. If for some ludicrous reason you're not convinced then don't panic, almost nobody else was except a very eager Time Team.Verdict: Creative
UFO Over Portsmouth(02 of05)
Open Image Modal
Lewis Rogers claimed to capture this incredible image of a UFO while visiting a friend in Portsmouth. He claimed that he'd witnessed the object moving faster than the speed of sound. He was lying. Rogers was an animator, and in conjunction with a friend managed to convince pretty much everyone into thinking such an object existed. Good work.Verdict: Fake
UFO Destroys Taliban Camp(03 of05)
Open Image Modal
A short piece of video recorded by a US soldier reportedly shows the moment that a UFO attacks a Taliban base. The craft reportedly hovers for a moment, then opens fire causing huge explosions to follow. Despite national media covering it the video has since been deemed a superb fake. The UFO looks too much like a flying saucer, and any hope of it being a secret US craft was ruled out by the fact that no known technology exists that would allow a craft like that to exist. Verdict: Fake
Comet 67P Is An Alien Warship(04 of05)
Open Image Modal
Yup, that's right. According to conspiracy theorists, the Rosetta mission wasn't to explore a comet but instead to make contact with an alien race. The theory goes that the comet contains the remnants of an alien civilisation who have been in contact with NASA via radio for the last 20 years. It's a well thought out story but sadly more full of holes than the comet itself.Verdict: Creative
Atacama Humanoid(05 of05)
Open Image Modal
Is it an alien? Surely it has to be. This tiny 6-inch humanoid skeleton was discovered in Chile. According to experts who examined the skeleton the humanoid lived to be 6-8 years of age. Medical science argues entirely with that theory, especially considering he was born over 100 years ago. Despite all this final DNA testing revealed the skeleton to be half human. Conspiracy theorists were handed a gold ticket but sadly science proved them wrong.Verdict: Creative
