The Best Advice For A Happy Life

Next time we're in need of some advice, we'll be giving our long-suffering mothers a break and heading to Reddit.

Because when one Reddit user asked others: "what is the best piece of advice you've ever been given" he received over 7,000 comments overnight.

And many contained some absolute pearls of wisdom.

Some on the community site said the words of the rich and famous had helped them through life.

Like Reddit user @akumarisu who repeated the well-known words of Mark Twain: "Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference."

Others said their favourite piece of advice came from somewhere closer to home.

"My dad always told me 'wenn du Dr gscheiteste im Raum bisch, dann bisch im falschen Raum!' Translated 'if you're the smartest in the room you are in the wrong room,'" user @BongoTheBoing said.

We particularly loved this gem from @thejellyfish96: "If you take yourself too seriously, no one else will."

And this one from @dont_findme: "Don't promise when you're happy. Don't reply when you're angry. Don't decide when you're sad."

Among the feel-good messages there also some more cynical replies, like this one from @bippetyboppety: "From my father: 'You can love the company you work for all you like, just remember the company does not love you back.'"

But it seemed whatever advice people favoured, they were in agreement that experience is the key to success in life.

As user @BlindIvan said: "Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement."
