Sure, Bill Gates might be a billionaire computer genius. He might have an actually-fairly-decent record of fighting malaria and other deadly diseases in the developing world, financial security and international respect.

But even he can lose at chess.

In a recent (and happily recorded) exhibition match, the Microsoft founder lost to current chess world champion Magnus Carlsen - aka the "Justin Bieber of Chess" - in just 71 seconds.

Admittedly, this isn't that surprising. While often thought of as a test of raw intelligence, chess is really just another game - a complex and fascinating one, but still one perfected through practice rather than innate cleverness.
