A study has found that taking a daily multivitamin pill could help women conceive more easily.

Researchers at University College London discovered that 70 per cent of women in a trial fell pregnant after taking a vitamin and mineral tablet for a month, compared to just 40 per cent who only took folic acid.

The research involved 58 women with an average age of 32, who had all been unsuccessfully trying for a baby for a year.

The trial used a supplement called Pregnacare-Conception by British firm, Vitabiotics. It is thought the tablet improved blood flow to the womb and ovaries.

Study leader Dr Rina Agrawal said: "There is a large body of evidence establishing the relationship between pregnancy and adequate nutrition."

The Sun reports that a larger trial will now take place.
