Dad Writes Comical 'Taken'-Inspired Note To Get Kids To Put Dishes In Dishwasher

Dad's 'Taken'-Style Note To Get Kids To Clean Up Is Brilliant
|

What parenting techniques do you use to get your kids to clean up after themselves? Shout? Send them to their room? Give up?

This dad took matters into his own hands when his teenagers refused to put their dishes in the dishwasher by penning a note inspired by the film Taken.

Reddit user, labuzan, posted a photo of the note which said to their kids if they don't clean up their mess they will be "disconnected" from their phones and wifi.

The user wrote: "My teenagers refuse to put their dishes in the dishwasher. So I put this above the sink."

Using very similar words from the phone scene in the film Taken where Bryan Mills' daughter is kidnapped by travelling in France, the dad wrote on the note:

"I don’t know who you are. I don’t know what you want. If you are looking for a maid to clean up after you, I can tell you I don’t do that.

"But what I do have are a particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long lifetime.

"Skills that make me an expert in home WiFi systems and Cellular data packages.

"If you clean up your own kitchen mess, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you.

Of course, taking away wifi and mobile phones is possibly the worst thing you could do as a parent so we wouldn't be surprised if this note really did magically make those dishes appear in the dishwasher.

When he uploaded it to Reddit, many parents began discussing their own ways to get their kids to clean up after themselves.

While others simply praised the dad for his excellent idea...

Rho EdmundsThis is my amazing hubby and father to our two kids. He gets up at 6 am every morning and feeds our baby and keeps him occupied whilst working, so that I can get an extra hour or two of sleep before our 5 year old gets up. He works from home and I am a SAHM so this image is pretty common in our house when I need a break or to take a shower. He is just so dependable and amazing! We are truly parenting partners!

"This is my idea of a working father. 24/7. They don't get time off, even in their sleep. This man works 6 hours a way, 6 days a week and then still helps with dinner, bath and bed while I get me and our 2nd one safely on the survivor side of accreta. He's my hero and I know he's our sons." (credit:Emma Smith)

Laura GutlebenThis is my husband from Halloween 2014.He was working, but he wasn't in an office or under a car or in ductwork. No, he was working on beating cancer. He was diagnosed in 2013 with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, T-cell (no Philadelphia chromosome, for those who care) and lymphoma. The 6th of May 2013, after slicing open his finger and stitches, then a blood draw, our PCP called him and told him he needed to check into the ER RIGHT NOW. The PCP is a tiny woman, but when someone who is generally soft spoken has that urgency in their voice, it's a big deal. The 9th of May, we got the dual diagnosis.July 2nd, 2014 is his rebirthday-- the day he got his donor's stem cells.Yes, we are throwing a bad ass party and no, I don't think anyone is going to remember it.My idea of a working dad is someone who works not just for his family but for himself as well.

Stephanie HuckeMy husband works 6 (sometimes 7) days a week and two jobs to support our family. He never has a moment to himself but NEVER complains about it. On the evenings and weekends that he doesn't work late, he always offers to help me with the baby even though those are the days we have his 7 year old daughter. So he's also doing homework, reading, baths, etc. with her those days too. I am so proud to have him as my husband and as the father of my son.
