Woman Has Horrendous Reaction To Poison Ivy, Sister Reacts In The Most Sibling-Like Way

Poor Emily.

A woman's unfortunate brush with poison ivy left her hospitalised with bulging eyes. But that didn't stop her sister from completely ripping her for it.

Emily Petrozza, 21, touched her eye after grazing the plant and it wasn't long before her body started to react.

Firstly, a rash appeared on her arm, but not long after her face had morphed to become completely unrecognisable.

After a trip to A&E, Emily's sister Lauren decided to do what sisters do best - she posted pictures of Emily's ballooning face on Twitter.

The tweet has caused some kind of online meltdown and has since been shared more than 33,000 times.

According to the Mayo Clinic, poison ivy rash is caused by an allergic reaction to an oily resin called urushiol which is found in the leaves, stems and roots of poison ivy.

People who come into contact with the plant are advised to wash their skin right away.

"If you develop a rash, it can be very itchy and last for weeks," reads the site.

"You can treat mild cases of poison ivy rash at home with soothing lotions and cool baths. You may need prescription medication for a rash that's severe or widespread — especially if it's on your face or genitals."

Emily, who is from Connecticut, US, is not entirely sure when she came into contact with the poison ivy, however she said she was fishing with her friend earlier on in the week. She also takes care of feral cats.

Emily told Mashable that she first noticed something was wrong when a rash appeared on her arms.

It wasn't long before it had spread to her face, something which Emily believes happened when she took her contact lenses out.

One morning, she woke up and couldn't open her eyes at all.

"My eyes were just really heavy and it hurt to try and keep them open," she said.

Thankfully Emily's swollen face is slowly returning to normal. And, thanks to her sister, she's also Twitter famous.

Meanwhile Emily and Lauren's sisterly bond is still going strong...
