Facebook is testing with letting users send a message to its CEO Mark Zuckerberg for $100.

Or rather - they're experimenting with letting strangers pay $100 to message you.

According to Mashable, the "extreme" new measure is an attempt to both raise revenue at the company, and defeat spammers.

The test is a variant on Facebook's experiment to let anyone pay $1 to message non-friends, which was announced in December.

In an apparent extension of that idea, if you try and message Mark Zuckerberg right now you'll be asked to pay $100.

Otherwise, the message will go into his "other" folder, which is usually full of spam and unsolicited mail. The idea is to see how far advertisers will go to get in touch with users - and perhaps whether it could prove to be a serious revenue driver.

A Facebook spokesperson said:

"We are testing some extreme price points to see what works to filter spam."
