These Olympians Show Us The Amazing Capabilities Of The Human Body

The 2016 Olympic games in Rio De Janeiro has shown us once again the marvels and capabilities of the human body. 

Although most of us wouldn’t get close to what these Olympians are capable of (mainly because we don’t want to get up early and train), their achievements are pretty phenomenal and shows what you can accomplish if you set your mind to it. 

1. North Korean weightlifter Om Yun-Choi has lifted 156kg, which is three times his own bodyweight.

2. Paralympic hopeful Tom Staniford is a National Para-Cycling Circuit Race champion despite having no body fat under his skin due to a rare genetic disease that affects only 8 people worldwide.

3. Heather Fisher is a rugby seven player having battled anorexia and eating disorders as a teenager. She also struggles with alopecia. 

4.Hiroshi Hokestu was 71-years-old when he competed in the dressage at London 2012.

5. American gymnast Simone Biles is only 4”8 tall.

 6. Swimmer Michael Phelps has a wingspan of 6”7 which is three inches bigger than his height.

7. Medal-winning swimmer Cody Miller has a lung deformity which reduces his breathing capacity by up to 20%.

 8. American swimmer Donna Elizabeth de Varona was only 13 years old when she won a gold medal in the relay heats for the 4 x 100m freestyle at the 1960 Olympics.

9. Gymnast Oksana Chusovitina is competing at her seventh Olympics this year, at the age of 41. She also has a 17-year-old son - the same age as some of her competitors.
