Here on HuffPost UK Lifestyle we couldn't end the week without sharing the most startling image we've seen for quite some time, direct from the world of wonderfully weird beauty treatments.

According to The Huffington Post US, the Huǒ liáo treatment, or “fire facial," is gaining serious traction in China, where the spa service originated.

The idea behind Huǒ liáo is to place a towel soaked in alcohol and a special "elixir" on the face, legs or other parts of the body, then light it on fire for a few seconds. This action apparently stimulates the skin and addresses dullness, sagging and wrinkles.

According to Rocket News, the photo of the treatment was posted to Chinese message board tt.mop last week, with a caption that read: “My mom went to get her face done at the beauty salon so I went with her. What I saw… instantly shocked me… I couldn’t look."
