This is the Gogoro Smartscooter, it looks unlike any scooter you've seen and it works unlike any scooter you've seen. It's electric but you'll never have to charge it.

Instead the Smartscooter runs on interchangeable batteries which can be swapped at will at a network of pre-installed Gogoro battery stations.

Batteries are then used, swapped and recycled by everyone. Each station charges them and they're then used by the next person that turns up.

Any further questions you might have are about to answered with one very simple statement. This is an all-or-nothing project.

Gogoro knows that for its unbelievably ambitious plan to work it'll need a massive network of stations and an even bigger user base of owners.

To accomplish this the company is targeting the scooter at huge cities all over the globe with the hope that it can revolutionise the way people use two-wheeled vehicles to get around urban centres.

The system is of course only as good as the scooter and in this case, the scooter should live up to the promise.

It's a glistening white and silver affair that blends smooth lines with LED lights. This is a vehicle for the 21st Century.

Bluetooth connectivity gives you an instant connection to the companion app on your smartphone.

The scooter's no slouch either, it'll go from 0-50km/h in 4.2secs and it'll hit a top speed of 95km/h.

With $150m in funding, the next question is whether anyone will actually buy into Gogoro's ambitious ideas.
