Hotel Review: The Cornwall Hotel, Spa &Amp; Estate, Cornwall

The Camerons have made Cornwall the UK's ultimate staycation destination, but for those who don't want to join the hordes in their caravans, there's a slick new hotel where the view from the spa's almost as good as the cliff walks nearby.

The USP: Boutique-chic in the main house – a converted Victorian mansion – with modern comfort in the new extension of rooms behind, which look like wooden chalets from a distance, but are all connected by corridors from the hotel. If you really fall for its charms (and the family friendly spa might well tip the balance), there are brand new houses on the 43-acre estate for sale or rent, too.

Book now if: You want space for the whole family and everything you need – walks, dinner, swimming pool – in one place. You can even bring the dog if you like.

Bedding down: There are a number of suites and luxury rooms in the main house (or White House, to give it its official name), which are perfect for a special occasion, but for a weekend trip, check into one of the Woodland Rooms behind instead. They come with regular en-suite or, our pick, a more modern open-plan bathroom. The style's more city slick than country manor and every one has its own balcony. Ask to be as far away from the main house as you can, it's a little more of a walk with your luggage but much quieter.

Feed me: The hotel's fine dining restaurant, The Aboretum, makes its mark with locally sourced ingredients and plenty of stylised flourishes. For lunch or cream teas, the Parkland Terrace serves food until 6.30pm.

Easily bored: You're a short drive from The Eden Project, and nearby seaside towns like Charlestown (a great spot for Cornish ice cream!). If you're feeling energetic, work off a full Cornish breakfast with a bracing walk along the coastal path.

What's the damage: Book in advance and you can nab a room from as little as £39.50 per person, per night. Special offers, including dinner and spa treatments, start from around £112 per person. In honour of Florence Cameron, any mums who gave birth on the 24th August in Cornwall and called their baby Samantha or David can have a free night's stay with dinner included!
