M&S Launches Ready-Made Poached Egg To Solve Your Runny Yolk Disasters

Egg-cellent.

There’s nothing like a poached egg to start your weekend with added joy, but getting the yolk perfectly runny can be a challenge.

To take this stress out of weekend brunch, M&S has launched a ready-made “perfectly poached” Eggs Royale dish.

The dish comes complete with a blini, smoked salmon, hollandaise sauce and, of course, a poached egg which they claim will is guaranteed to have a gooey centre.

Customers simply need to heat the egg up by popping it in the oven and hey presto, brunch is ready.

The M&S egg is sous vide, which involves sealing it in a vacuum pack and immersing in a water bath, then cooking at a precise, consistent temperature.

The technique took three years to perfect, but M&S says the method allows the egg to stay runny even when reheated by customers at home.

“We know our customers love to eat eggs for breakfast – our sales are up 10%, and you can’t beat a perfectly poached egg, but it can be surprisingly difficult to conquer,” M&S deli developer Kirsty Grieve commented.

“We’ve taken years to develop our Eggs Royale – it has long been a favourite on restaurant brunch menus but it’s notoriously tricky to re-create at home, but now we’ve taken the stress out and our customers are guaranteed a runny yolk.”

This year breakfast has been big for M&S with customers looking for new and exciting alternatives to toast and the traditional ‘Full English’.

Just recently the retailer launched the ‘Croloaf’, the high street’s first croissant loaf.

Grieve believes the ready-made egg dish will be particularly popular over Christmas.

“With our Eggs Royal our customers can have more time to spend opening presents and worrying about getting the turkey in the oven,” she said.

“With breakfast becoming the trendiest mealtime, it was only a matter of time before Christmas breakfast became as important as the main event.”

Two Smoked Salmon and Egg Royale (230g) cost £6. Available in stores from 21 December.

Located slap band in the middle of Shoreditch High Street, this brunch-hotspot-cum-cocktail-bar-cum-chill-out-lounge couldn't be better located.

Its comfy sofas and fresh decor are super inviting, as are super energetic staff (maybe they put something in the water). The veggie full English (complete with bubble & squeak) was both sizeable and delicious, the poached eggs, chilli avocado and sourdough toast was tasty but a bit on the small size for £7.

What's the deal? Buy a glass of Prosecco of £10 and get refills throughout the meal, they also offer Bloody Marys and cocktails (but these are unfortunately not so bottomless)Forge & Co154-158 Shoreditch High StreetLondonE1 6HU 020 7729 0007

The Northall remains a firm favourite because a) it is utterly stunning - the central restaurant has floor to ceiling windows which look out onto Embankment, and b) is swish enough for a special occasion, but not too intimidating if you end up using the wrong fork.

Dishes are gorgeous, quintessential British favourites such as roast beef and smoked salmon on brioche with scrambled eggs, but you also have some surprises such as heritage beetroot with balsamic crackle and goat curd.

There's a jazz singer on Sundays, which seems all rather wonderful after bottomless glasses of Perrier Jouet champagne. Hic! The staff are just lovely - so if you want someone to be spoiled rotten, this is a guaranteed treat.

On weekends between later morning and early evening, this swanky members club turns into a haven for bottomless brunch lovers.

Once you find the place (it's a least 10 minutes walk from a number of central London tube stations), prepare to be faced with hoards of 20-something, brunch-loving, bellini-drinking London females. At least that was our experience.

Once you get over the fact that everyone looks the same, feast your eyes on the beautiful decor (wrought iron circular stairwell, tropical print upholstery, a huge stone fire place) and feast your bellies on the incredible brunch offering, from French toast bigger than door stop smothered in maple syrup and bacon, to lighter veggie options with hen's eggs and curried cauliflower.

What's the deal?Pay £17 for unlimited bellinis (flavoured with whatever fruit is in season, we had peach) or £16 for unlimited Bloody Marys. You've got 2.5 hours to get your drink on. Certainly more than enough.
