The number of Brits prepared to go under the knife to improve their looks increased last year, with many men considering breast reduction and non-surgical procedures such as botox.

According to Transform, the UK’s largest cosmetic surgery provider, there was a 65% increase in inquiries about various procedures in 2012.

The number of men undergoing breast reductions has increased by a staggering 28% in the last 12 months, while the second most popular procedure among men is rhinoplasty with the demand increasing by 17%.

The figures show an increase among both men and women for non-cosmetic procedures, with men accounting for 44% of all Botox enquiries.

Pat Dunion, spokesperson for Transform, explained the surge in men getting breast reductions:

“With male celebrities such as Matthew McConaughey, David Beckham and Tom Daley regularly showing off their super-toned bodies, men have become far more aware of how they look.

“'Man boobs' can be difficult to shift using exercise alone and more and more men who are feeling self conscious about the size of their chest area are turning to chest reduction surgery.”

In January 2011, we reported that the male tummy tuck saw a 15% rise in popularity as men look for a quick-fix to eliminate paunches. It seems as though the male hang ups may have shifted to further up the body.
