Movember: Tips To Style That Unruly Moustache (PICTURES)

Movember: Style That Unruly Moustache
|

As we move into the home straight of Movember, the campaign that encourages men to grow moustaches to raise awareness about men's health issues, top lips across the world are getting rather unruly.

Perhaps what our MoBro boys and MoSista gals need is a stylist.

HuffPost UK Lifestyle hooked up with Brent Pankhurst, a barber at Pankhurst London and Gillette's style and grooming ambassador to get some top styling tips.

NB. Now, we know that *strictly* speaking Movember moustaches should be grown without a beard. But who are we to discriminate? See slide three, four, seven and eight for beardless Mo styles.

1. This is for the lazy Movember style, minimal effort is required to achieve this look2. Start by clean shaving the cheeks and neck to accentuate the style, leaving a circle shape around the mouth3. Use a beard trimmer to remove any hair under the bottom lip, making sure to leave enough hair for a goatee4. To accentuate the style, make sure to clean shave the rest of the face at least twice a weekPop down to Gillette’s pop up Barber Shop on 10 Newburgh Street, London to be treated to a complementary drink followed by a luxury shaving experience with a qualified Barber including hot towels and Mo touch ups into one of these Movember styles. The Royale Beard(02 of08)

1. This style is formed of a classic moustache, anchored by a thick chin strip2. Select a fixed length comb onto your shaver to gradually get rid of the unwanted hair on the cheeks andneck3. The key to this style is symmetry, use a clear shaving gel such as the Gillette ProGlide clear shaving gel so you can see the lines of the moustache style as you shave, making sure to use the edge of your razor to define the moustache4. To make this look more rugged, extend the moustache around the mouth to create a half moon shape and maintain the hairs thicknessPop down to Gillette’s pop up Barber Shop on 10 Newburgh Street, London to be treated to a complementary drink followed by a luxury shaving experience with a qualified Barber including hot towels and Mo touch ups into one of these Movember styles. The Chevron(03 of08)

1. Minimal styling effort is needed for this moustache2. The Chevron moustache covers the entire top lip and is best when it is just over 1cm in width3. Start by clean shaving the neck, cheeks and chin to accentuate the moustache4. The hair should extend 1cm towards the jawline in a down wards direction5. The great thing about this style is you can leave it for a few days and you’ll still maintain a great moustache shape. However, if you wanted to achieve a more defined look, use a moulding cream to smooth the hair down, working the cream in the same direction as the hair growthPop down to Gillette’s pop up Barber Shop on 10 Newburgh Street, London to be treated to a complementary drink followed by a luxury shaving experience with a qualified Barber including hot towels and Mo touch ups into one of these Movember styles. The Pencil Thin(04 of08)

1. A popular moustache this year is known as the ‘pencil thin’2. This is the best style for those who can’t quite grow enough facial hair for a full on tache!3. Start my clean shaving the cheeks, chin and neck4. Once you have the shape you desire, use a beard trimmer to achieve an even thin trim – I recommend a grad 3 clipper attachment5. It’s important to keep the lip clear, the lips should be totally visible and the moustache hair no longer than 0.5cm6. To achieve a defined look, make sure to use a moulding cream to smooth the tache working the product from the middle of the tache to the edge of the mouthPop down to Gillette’s pop up Barber Shop on 10 Newburgh Street, London to be treated to a complementary drink followed by a luxury shaving experience with a qualified Barber including hot towels and Mo touch ups into one of these Movember styles. Mutton Chops(05 of08)

1. This is the perfect style for those adventurous types who tend to have a full facial beard on an every day basis2. Start by trimming the hair, I suggest using the Gillette Fusion ProGlide styler comb attachment to achieve the desired length of hair you need for a comfortable shaving experience3. Remove the comb and use the razor to create defined side burns along the jawline4. Symmetry is key to this style so make sure to spend time achieving the style you require5. I suggest using a moulding cream to smooth down the hair so you can create maximum definition, smooth the cream along the jawline in the direction of the hair growth. Finish by using the edge of your razor to achieve that clear cut lookPop down to Gillette’s pop up Barber Shop on 10 Newburgh Street, London to be treated to a complementary drink followed by a luxury shaving experience with a qualified Barber including hot towels and Mo touch ups into one of these Movember styles. 1. Similar to the Mutton Chops, this style consists of an extended moustache and extended sideburns, however they aren’t connected2. Clean shave the areas you wish to keep smooth. Using the Gillette Fusion ProGlide clear shave gel will allow you to see the areas you are shaving as well as lubricate the surface of your skin for a smooth, comfortable shave3. Use the edge of your Razor to define the edges and smooth down with a moulding cream4. For maximum definition, make sure to keep the rest of the face clean shaven to accentuate the style, I suggest shaving at least every other dayPop down to Gillette’s pop up Barber Shop on 10 Newburgh Street, London to be treated to a complementary drink followed by a luxury shaving experience with a qualified Barber including hot towels and Mo touch ups into one of these Movember styles. The HorseShoe(07 of08)
Open Image Modal
1. The most masculine of moustaches - the HorseShoe moustache2. A full moustache with vertical extensions grown from the corner of the mouth down the side of the mout to the jawline3. Start by clean shaving the cheeks, neck and chin area4. I suggest using the Gillette Fusion ProGlide Styler to keep the moustache defined – start with a wide strip of hair and gradually use your Styler to work the moustache to the thickness you desire.5. If you want maximum definition, use a moulding cream to keep any stray hairs in placePop down to Gillette’s pop up Barber Shop on 10 Newburgh Street, London to be treated to a complementary drink followed by a luxury shaving experience with a qualified Barber including hot towels and Mo touch ups into one of these Movember styles. The Classic Moustache(08 of08)

1. This moustache is suitable for all face shapes2. First of all grow your facial hair to a suitable length across the whole face. This will give you an easier, closer shave when you come to removing the parts you don’t want3. Once at a suitable length for shaving, start by clean shaving the cheeks, chin and neck area to accentuate your moustache4. The moustache hair should not extend more than half an inch past the sides of the mouth5. I suggest using a beard trimmer to create a defined look at the edges and to expose the upper lipPop down to Gillette’s pop up Barber Shop on 10 Newburgh Street, London to be treated to a complementary drink followed by a luxury shaving experience with a qualified Barber including hot towels and Mo touch ups into one of these Movember styles.
