My Big Day: Hazel And Paul

My Big Day: Hazel And Paul

When Hazel and Paul envisaged their August 2013 wedding, their dream was to find a "picture-perfect venue." Enter Lulworth Castle in Dorset, which ticked every box with its imposing stone walls and idyllic views of the English countryside. Did we mention it also overlooks the sea and Dorset coastline? Swoon.

The couple wanted to team the traditional and formal with a modern, relaxed summer vibe. Outside, Hazel and Paul's favourite tunes played as guests enjoyed outdoor games and drank Pimms before heading indoors for a sit-down dinner, speeches and disco.

When it came to the dress, Hazel kept it classic with a show-stopping one-shouldered number from designer Stewart Parvin. "I wanted to wear every style of dress but eventually I decided on a classic style fitting the venue," Hazel explains.

Accents of lilac and violet in the bridesmaid and mother-of-the-bride ensembles, floral arrangements and table settings helped to provide a colour scheme for the big day, captured by London wedding photographer Jay Rowden.

While everything went to plan, there was an unexpected change of dress on the day - and it wasn't Hazel swapping outfits. "My husband surprised me by wearing a different outfit for the evening (from morning dress to black tie). If I had known that, I would have bought a second dress!" she says.

She did end the evening with a romantic fashion swap of her own when she ditched her sparkling metallic Jimmy Choo heels after Paul presented her with a pair of Converse trainers inscribed with her married name, "Mrs. Youens," so she could cut loose on the dance floor.
