Our new food series on Parentdish profiles celebrity chefs, cookery writers and food bloggers.

Keith is a former women's, men's and cookery magazines' editor. After redundancy from Britain's biggest publishers, Keith and his wife had to swap roles. Now his wife works in an office while Keith runs the home.

He cooks meals from scratch every day for his hard working wife and three children: stepdaughter Daisy, 11, and sons Tom, nine, and six-year-old Sam.

Describe your cooking style in three words

Jamie Meets Heston, though I want to be Big Tom Kerridge.

The weirdest thing I've ever eaten is...

A sheep's eyeball, in a tent, in the Saudi desert, with Syrian troops, during the Gulf War in 1991.

In my cupboard you will always find...

Spices. Loads and loads of spices. I've just bought some asafoetida and it's stinking the place out.

What would you cook for the Queen?

Cheese, ham and broccoli pancakes. If they're good enough for my kids, they're good enough for Her Maj!

I would tell parents of fussy eaters...

Keep serving healthy, tasty food – and never give in to the tyranny of the folded-arms-head-shaking-lips-pursed rejection of your culinary efforts. Kids eat when they're hungry and no child has ever voluntarily starved themselves to death.

My guilty food pleasure is...

Naked Noodles. They're like post Pot Noodles, only more soupy. They only cost a quid and I have one for lunch every day. I converted by wife to them, who has now converted her entire office!

Most memorable food experience...

Aside from the eyeballs in the desert, it's the first time I ate the world's most luxurious and expensive steak, wagyu. My hard-working wife treated me to it for my birthday. It cost £110 – for one steak. She never bought me another one.

For my last meal I would eat...

Seared wagyu sirloin steak, lemony roast Poulet de Bresse chicken and pan-fried hand-dived scallops with black pudding. All on the same plate.

I would never, ever eat...

Fish. I'm allergic. It makes my lips blister. But I can eat shellfish, bizarrely.

When I'm home alone I cook...

Luxury cheese on toast: melted Wensleydale, mixed with chopped spring onions and chopped crispy bacon, piled onto lightly toasted sour dough bread.

If I had to eat one thing for the rest of my life it would be...

Cheese, preferably a strong nutty Cheddar such as Isle of Mull, Westcombe or Montgomery.

My kitchen is always...

My sanctuary.

Number one on my foodies bucket list is...

To escape from the kids with my wife for a long weekend to San Sebastian, northern Spain. It apparently has more Michelin-starred restaurant than anywhere else.

My must-have kitchen gadget is...

A toss up between my Cuisinart Slow Cooker and Sous Vide Supreme water bath. I also love a new lightweight reversible griddle pan from Crofton that I bought from Aldi for £12.99. It's great on the hob but unfortunately is too big to fit in my oven!
