Imagine floor-sweeping, semi-sheer sugary pink gowns adorned in sequins, feathers and ruffles. And a watercoloured wedding dress to end all wedding dresses.

Saab's signature sparkle was all there, but there was a contemporary twist brought to the couture runway that saw short dresses (flouncy chiffon A-line skirts and OTT feather embellishment) paired with metallic flats, cuff bracelets and stunning boxy clutch bags.

Details were intricate (the brocade gowns through to said clutches) and painstakingly beautiful.

Elie Saab women are all about extravagance but they're nonchalant about it. They do the hands in pockets thing.

The setting was all whimsical romance and both the soft palettes (save for the striking black) and luxe, lightweight textures complimented the fairytale vibe.

Florals were a running theme, though less blatant than the prints on the Chanel and Alexis Mabille catwalks, as were appliqué butterflies.

Necklines were plunging, high or they were off-the-shoulder and when gowns weren't above the knee (a nod to those in search of a designer bridesmaid dress) they were floor-length and often full-skirted.

Dramatic, feminine and made for modern day princesses.
