One of the most exciting astronomical events for skywatchers, the Perseid Meteor, shower is currently in full swing.

Remnants of the comet Swift-Tuttle, the Perseids shower is visible from mid- July each year, with the peak in activity usually between August 9 and 14 depending on the particular location of the stream.

The comet last passed the earth in 1992 and is not due to return until 2125 but its trail collides with the atmosphere during Earth's orbit of the sun.

According to the Royal Astronomical Society predictions for clear observing appear to to be good, to get the best view of this dazzling selection of shooting trinkets the advice is to stay away from heavily light polluted areas and to find a dark open sky, sit, wait and enjoy.

Last night stargazers in the UK and other parts took to twitter sharing their celestial snaps, many surprised at the clear visibility with the naked eye, some even managing to catch the ISS in orbit shooting over us.

However if your skies were shrouded in clouds fear not there is still the opportunity to see this dazzling array of shooting stars tonight so dust off those binoculars. Nasa have also created a live stream of the event which you can view here.

Take a look at some of the images shared from last nights shower..If you would like to share your photos with us please send to ukpicturedesk@huffingtonpost.com or tweet us at @HuffPostUKPics
