It's Cold, It's Dark, But Here Are 15 Reasons To Embrace Shorter Days Now They're Here

This morning was rough, huh?

The clocks have gone back and the temperature has dropped off a chilly cliff. It’s official – the seasons have changed and winter is approaching fast.

Not only are we waving goodbye to the record-breaking summer in the UK, but we’ve also got to get used to leaving work in the dark again (why does this seem so shocking when we do this every single year, people?)

You might not have felt it when your alarm went off this morning, there are reasons to celebrate the shorter days and cold weeks yet to come.

You get lighter mornings (at least for a couple of weeks).

You appreciate the joy of a hot shower to wake you up.

You can finally get your coats out of storage.

It’s totally acceptable to wear jazzy socks and thermals.

You don’t sweat as much on public transport in winter.

You don’t accidentally stay late at work when it’s dark out.

You feel guilt-free about going straight home and not socialising.

You can watch all those TV boxsets you’ve been saving.

You can burn candles like they’re going out of fashion.

You can eat a diet of roast potatoes and hot puddings.

You have the gym to yourself (if you manage to get there).

You feel no pressure to spend any time on hair removal.

You can justify an early bedtime when it’s been dark since 4pm.

You can rock flannel pyjamas without waking up sweaty.

And you know Halloween, Bonfire Night, Diwali, Hanukkah and Christmas are all on the horizon.
