Tinder Adds New Sexual Orientation And Gender Options – All You Need To Know

You can select up to three sexual orientations from a list of nine

Tinder has rolled out a major update, which allows users to choose from a more comprehensive list of sexual orientations and gender identities.

For the first time in the dating app’s history, users will be able to choose to be registered as trans – rather than the former binary options of man or woman. They can choose whether this automatically shows on their profile.

People will also be also to select up to three sexual orientation terms from nine options: straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, asexual, demisexual, pansexual, queer, and questioning. They can then specify which gender they would like to be matched with.

The change, named ‘Orientation’, will roll out to iOS and Android users in the UK throughout June (it is also available in America, Canada, Ireland, India, Australia and New Zealand).

To add information about sexual orientation on Tinder, users can simply visit ‘Edit Info’ within the app. After tapping ‘Orientation’ they can select the three terms they feel best describes their sexual orientation.

From there, users can select whether to display their sexual orientation on their profile, or whether it is just used behind the scenes to help match them.

The update, which has been made in consultation with the LGBTQ+ charity GLAAD, is a response to user feedback which found people wanted to have the option to be more specific about their dating lives.

“We want all of our users to feel empowered expressing who they are while connecting with new people – and we’re always working to make that easier for our users,” says Tinder CEO Elie Seidman.
