Uma Thurman's former fiancé Arpad Busson has made a bid for custody of their two-year-old daughter, Rosalind.

French hedge fund manager Arpad, 51, has reportedly filed an emergency court order seeking custody of Rosalind, after he and Uma, 44, ended their engagement in April this year.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Uma said: "It is unfortunate that this very private discussion regarding Mr. Busson's visitation rights and his participation in decision making has been made public.

"However, we are optimistic that a fair agreement for both sides will be reached out of court."

Uma first began dating Arpad in 2007. They announced their engagement in 2008, but split up a year later.

The pair rekindled their romance in 2011 and got engaged for a second time in early 2012. Uma gave birth to their only child, Rosalind, in July 2012.

Arpad is also father to two sons - Flynn, 16, and Aurelius, 11, with his ex, supermodel Elle Macpherson. The couple share custody of both children.

Uma is based in New York and Arpad is based in London, but his lawyers filed the custody papers in Manhattan Supreme Court in New York on Tuesday October 14.
