We’ve all got that dusty drawer in the kitchen that has become home to rubber bands, tattered bits of string and a handful of redundant gadgets.
Research from Just-Eat has found that 87% of us are guilty of having bought kitchen bits and bobs which we’ve only used once, or not at all.
As a nation, that collective drawer of crap adds up to a staggering £2.08billion yearly spend.
Yep, that’s a wad of cash to have spent on avocado slicers, sweetcorn strippers, spoon rests and asparagus peelers.
A spokesman for Just Eat said: This research should let people know they can give themselves a break. We all put so much pressure on ourselves to be the perfect cook, only to end up wasting our time and our money.
“Sometimes, these things are simply best left to the professionals, so take the day off, and enjoy your meal without slaving away to prepare it.”
Professor Joshua Bamfield, from the Centre for Retail Research, said: “With a stockpile of unused kitchen gadgets sitting redundant in UK households, there is an opportunity here for Britons to face facts and force themselves to stop cluttering up kitchens.
"We’ve spent an estimated £2.08bn on these gadgets for ourselves, and even more in gifting unwanted gadgets to others.”
