Jackie was elected as Member for Thurrock in May 2010. In June 2010 she was appointed a member of the Public Accounts Committee of the House of Commons.

Jackie lives in Purfleet. Before being elected to Parliament she enjoyed a number of roles in public policy and Government relations in the City of London. Most recently she worked as an adviser to the Financial Services Consumer Panel, campaigning for better treatment of consumers at the hands of financial institutions.

Time for Leadership Not Nimbyism in Debate on Airport Capacity

It is really disappointing that the debate about aviation capacity in the South East has become about Boris Island versus an additional runway at Heathrow. The issues about the provision of capacity and how best to deliver it generate many more options. This is a debate which needs to be conducted in the interests of Great Britain PLC. Sadly it seems to be more influenced by those who live under the Heathrow flightpath and those who are so scared of airport expansion anywhere near their own backyard they somehow think that plonking an airport in the middle of the Thames Estuary is the magic solution.

Until Labour face up to the unpleasant truths of their role in the country's present economic crisis, their rhetoric is going to fail to convince. Playing the political game with aggressive putdowns which play to the gallery will only get them so far.

Wind farms will never be able to meet a significant part of our power generation needs for the simple reason that we cannot manage the wind. We aren't going to stop wanting power when the wind drops!

Thames Estuary Airport is not an Option

With hindsight perhaps Heathrow was not the best location for a hub airport but we are where we are. The construction of a new airport in the Thames Estuary is not an alternative.
