Kelly O’Hanlon

Senior Lecturer in Public Relations at Birmingham City University's School of Media

An ex-BCU student herself, graduating in 2005 from the very degree she now teaches on, Kelly has more than 12 years experience in the PR industry. From an award-winning campaign for National Express that saw drag queens descend on Victoria Train Station in mock protest of the Southern Rail strikes, to helping develop Europe's biggest online baking community for Neff appliances, and managing a brand partnership for Sharps Bedrooms with celebrity designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, Kelly has had an exciting and eclectic PR career. Leading a trade initiative to promote the uses of a type of wood panel called OSB, for nine years, Kelly demonstrated that “If you can PR a piece of wood, you can PR anything!" Shortlisted in 2009 for CIPR Young Professional of The Year, Kelly is passionate about engaging the practitioners of tomorrow and making crucial connections between university and industry. She is currently Senior Lecturer in Public Relations at the respected Birmingham School of Media at Birmingham City University, and runs a student PR agency, blog and social feed; Eastside PR. Kelly is also Treasurer for CIPR Midlands and a lifestyle blogger.
