Stephen Williams MP

MP for Bristol West and Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesperson

Stephen Williams entered Parliament at his third attempt in 2005, gaining this seat from the Labour Party.

After attending Mountain Ash Comprehensive, Glamorgan, Stephen Williams read history at Bristol University and has lived and worked in the city since graduating. He has mainly worked as a tax consultant for international business advisory firms including PriceWaterhouseCooper (PWC) and Grant Thornton. He is a member of: Amnesty International, Bristol Civic Society, the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Friends of the Earth, National Trust, Stonewall and the WWF. His interests include: visiting art galleries and historic sites; theatre & cinema; gym, playing pool and swimming; he is also a director of the Watershed arts centre.
He was a member of Avon County Council [1993-96] and Bristol City Council [1995-99] council for six years, where he led the Lib Dem group [1995-97].

After the formation o the Coalition, Stephen was appointed Co-Chair of the Liberal Democrat Treasury Committee. He has previously been Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary for Innovation, Universities and Skills, Shadow Schools Minister, Further and Higher Education spokesperson and a member of the Health team. He has previously sat on the Children, Schools and Families Select Committee, Education and Skills Select Committee and Public Accounts Committee and is currently a member of the Political and Constitutional Reform Select Committee.
