It's also becoming more acceptable to decide to re-invent yourself and change direction at least once in your career. Increasingly, we're getting into our forties and trying something new. It's about having the confidence to break the rules and realise your career doesn't just have to be in a straight line - it can be wiggly.

Of course, it's not just women that have imposter syndrome, but it is far more prevalent in women. Most sufferers don't want to admit to having it, but I believe it's vital that people speak out so that others who feel the same way know they're not alone.

In order to maintain a strong and competitive position in your market; gain the valued points of view of the younger generation and to ensure your board is representative of your business and society, it's dangerous to ignore the advantages of a younger boardroom. We, at least, feel that in identifying the bright young sparks and giving them a voice, not because of their age but in spite of it, is how to redress the balance.

When I started out in business I was very lucky to work with someone who listened to me, shared their knowledge and skills, and basically helped my working experience become an enjoyable one. In short, this colleague was my mentor. A mentor can be anyone who helps you grow by sharing their knowledge with you, offering advice, and being genuinely concerned about you and your success.
