When I was brought tickets for the new Diversity 'Digitized' tour, I have to admit, I was a little worried, as my Reality TV expertise has tended to be with singers and bands. However, as someone recently said, "I don't play the drums, but I know what a drum kit looks like".
As I took my place (no, not on the dance floor), the huge crowd slowly filling up the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, were buzzing, waiting for the dancing phenomena and Britain's Got Talent 2009 winners, to hit the stage. The blue atmospheric smoke started to slowly emerge into the audience....
As the music slowly started to vibrate through our seats, we were reminded on the big cinema size screen, just how the group came to arrive here tonight.
But then shock....a Sky news report came flashing through to tell us that the lads are missing....and so the story begins.
The guys arrive on stage, the loudest cheers noticeably reserved for Ashley Banjo and Perri, the little guy with the big hair.
Without giving too much away, the show is then based on Diversity being pulled into a video game and being challenged to complete various levels within the game to allow them to return to the 'real' world. It all sounds very strange and unbelievable, but it works, and is very entertaining.
As the show develops, it is clear for everyone to see how professional and dedicated these guys are. The dancing is phenomenal, the moves are at times, gob-smacking, and the timing is perfect.
Throughout the show, we get to meet various other fantastic dance acts, some no bigger than two feet tall...but as we are told in one scene, "never judge a book by its cover."
We even get to see a couple of past Britain's Got Talent favourites. Again no spoilers.
This group have so much talent they even manage to squeeze in a bit of Zumba, for the ladies!! Watch out too for the soul shoes montage, again proving the show is suitable for everyone, trendy teen to groovy Grandad! They even perform a Michael Jackson tribute. The great man would have been proud.
The audience participation level was also great fun and when invited, everyone around me was laughing and (trying) to match the Diversity lads' moves...some it has to be said, better than others. Bones are a bit stiff nowadays.
The whole show lasted around two hours, (with an interval), and the overall pace didn't allow it, at any time to feel dull. In fact I didn't want it to end. It is energetic and fast paced, just watching it made me feel like I had lost half a stone.
The tour runs until April 15, so if you get the chance, go and experience it. You will not be disappointed, I promise.
