The most romantic day of the year is almost upon us. Whether you are single, dating, or in a long term relationship, Valentines should be a day we can all enjoy. Here are my tips on how to make this Valentines one to remember.
Think about how you can have a fantastic day either by yourself or with friends.
If seeing other people coupled up makes you feel lonely, organise a really fun day for yourself, it might be a night out with friends or going to an event for single people. These types of events are great fun as well as being an opportunity to potentially meet someone. If this doesn't appeal, perhaps try hosting your own event; have a dinner or drinks party and invite all your single friends.
Make the most of the freedom of being single, make plans you know you will enjoy and don't worry about pleasing other people.

Have a think about what your perfect Valentine's Day is.
It's a Saturday this year, how do you want to spend the day? There are so many possibilities, you could spend the day in bed watching movies, plan a day out or go away for the weekend. It doesn't have to be expensive; a cosy bed and breakfast in the countryside can be very romantic or you could have a romantic meal at home. If you can afford it dinner at a fancy restaurant makes the day extra special (but make sure you book as most get very busy).
Planning can make all the difference - Think in advance about what you can do to make your date feel special. What is it that they would really like? Some people prefer the traditional flowers, chocolates and champagne, other people might prefer something a little more personal. If your partner loves home baking try baking something they'll like and decorate to suit the occasion. Making your date feel special doesn't have to be expensive - it could be breakfast in bed and writing a love note and putting it on the bathroom mirror for them to find, or popping it in their purse or wallet.
But you can still have a lovely day even if you haven't time to make proper plans - Take it as an opportunity to be spontaneous. You could have a picnic on the living room floor with your favourite music and candles. Sometimes we focus too much on what other people are doing rather than being grateful of what our partner does for us. Don't focus on the things your partner doesn't do, appreciate the things they do do. Remember just being with the person you want to be with on Valentines Day will make it special.
Communication - If there is something that is really important to you or something you would love to happen on Valentine's Day, communicate it with your partner in advance. Don't expect your partner to be able to read your mind; you need to make it clear what you want. Hint in the lead up to the day by using phrases like; 'I would love to...; it would be really great if we...; it would be so much fun to...;' Be reasonable with your request and consider your partner's budget.
Remember to relax - Be understanding, if everything isn't perfect, having communicated and done your planning, let go of expectation - whatever happens, happens. Putting too much pressure on yourself and your partner to have the perfect time can create stress and tension; have fun, let go, and appreciate being with your partner, date or friends whatever happens.
