After giving us a taster of her cookery skills during a segment on Tuesday’s This Morning, we knew Alison Hammond’s turn on the Great British Bake Off would be the perfect recipe for laughs, and we were not wrong.

The presenter had viewers of the Channel 4 show in stitches as she joined Alex Jones, Joe Sugg and James Blunt in the tent for a celebrity special in aid of Stand Up To Cancer.

Alison entered the competition with confidence, remarking that nothing ever comes close to her chocolate brownies, which the contestants were tasked with creating in the signature round.

“In three years, I don’t think we’ve met anybody with this much confidence,” judge Prue Leith remarked.

As she went about making her chocolate creations, she joked: “I’m literally a natural baker... and a natural eater, as well.”

Alison then remarked: “Things are running so smoothly for me, this is actually boring TV.”

However, just moments later, she was perplexed when the sliding over door went under the appliance.

“Where’s the door gone?!” she asked.

After she placed first in the technical challenge, where the bakers had to make miniature Yorkshire puddings stuffed with beef and horseradish sauce, she bragged: “Wow, I’m good. I sound so big-headed.”

However, she started to come unstuck during the showstopper, when her police station made out of gingerbread did not go according to plan.

As it all started to fall apart, she said: “I might as well just sit down and eat,” picking up one of her policemen biscuits.

When she later presented her efforts to Prue and fellow judge Paul Hollywood, he remarked: “It is a little bit like a five-year-old’s been given a load of biscuits to cut out,” causing Alison to erupt with laughter.

Sadly, Alison’s wasn’t crowned Star Baker, with that honour going to YouTuber Joe Sugg, who’d earlier fainted after cutting his finger in the kitchen.

The Great Stand Up To Cancer Bake Off continues next Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
