Alison Hammond made her cooking debut during Tuesday’s This Morning, and things went pretty much exactly as you’d expect.

That would be completely ridiculously, then.

Ahead of her appearance on the celebrity edition of the Great British Bake Off, Alison found herself in the This Morning kitchen, to show off her recipe for her chocolate brownies (well, her cousin’s recipe, but still).

Things got off to a predictably shaky start, with presenter Phillip Schofield reminding the chatty presenter she should probably get started, as the clock was already ticking on their segment.

“I should [start] shouldn’t I?” she joked. “OK so first of all, very easy, you want a nice good-quality chocolate...”

Reading ingredients and their amounts off a piece of paper on the counter (brilliant), Alison explained: “What you want to do is make a nice bain marie. I actually thought it was a bamboree, but it’s not, it’s a bain marie.”

“The steam is going to melt the butter,” she continued. “I mean… you could do it in the microwave, as well, but this is just… more fun. And you know, when you’re baking and you just smell that chocolate it’s just so exciting.”

From there, Alison continued to mix her ingredients (“if you want to be, you can add a teaspoon of baking powder, but I’ve actually forgotten that before and it really didn’t make a difference), only to then notice her concoction was looking a little on the dry side.

Well, it literally looked she’d stuck a load of brown stones in a mixing bowl, to be frank.

“As you can see,” she told presenters Phillip and Holly Willoughby (who were maintaining two metres’ distance from one another, never fear), “It’s a little bit dry. It’s not normally… it’s not normally this dry, but with cooking and me, I just go with the flow.”

It was then that Holly reminded Alison that she “hadn’t put any eggs in it”.

As Phillip pointed out she only had a minute to finish off her baking segment, Alison insisted: “Babes, chill! Relax! I got this! I got this.”

The whole scene was just what we needed to brighten up our Tuesday, and honestly, if this is anything to go by, we can’t wait to see what she serves up for Paul and Prue in the Bake Off tent...

This Morning airs every weekday from 10am on ITV.
