The last two spots in this year’s Britain’s Got Talent final have now been filled, with illusionist X and daredevil Jonathan Goodwin impressing viewers in Friday night’s semi-final.
X was the first act to bag a place in the final, receiving the most votes from the public, after a particularly impressive performance.
The mysterious act – who performs completely anonymously – used their routine to prove that they are able to influence decisions, by giving Simon Cowell a list of random words to choose from.
After he chose “hope” from the list, X claimed – in a post shared on their Instagram page a month ago – that they’d implanted this in Simon’s mind there and then, winning rapturous applause from the audience.
It was then up to the judges to pick between child dancing duo Libby & Charlie and stunt performer Jonathan Goodwin, who delivered what Ant and Dec described as the “most dangerous performance” in BGT history.
Ultimately, though, it was a split vote among the panel, with Simon admitting he didn’t want to be responsible for sending a performer as potentially dangerous as Jonathan threw to the final.
This meant the result of the public vote had to be considered, with Jonathan revealed as the viewers’ pick.
His performance involved dodging arrows fired at him by a crossbow while sporting a metal blindfold, using only his instincts – and a handy photo of David Walliams – to stop himself being seriously injured.
Teasing what’s in store for this weekend, he revealed he was planning something “more dangerous” and even bigger than what we’ve seen so far.
Still, Libby & Charlie’s dance routine was also an impressive one, particularly when you consider they only had a couple of days to put it together, having been brought in at the eleventh hour to replace escapology group Brotherhood.
