A 17-year-old British girl who died on a school trip to New York, has been named as Anastasia Uglow.

The sixth form student from Bristol Grammar School was found unconscious and unresponsive at the hotel at which the touring party was staying on December 19.

She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A spokesperson for the New York Police Department (NYPD) told Bristol Live: “The medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death and the investigation is ongoing.”

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are talking with the US authorities and are providing support to the family.”

It is understood there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and that Uglow may have fallen ill during the trip.

A condolence book has been opened by the school and extra support is being provided to pupils affected by the news.
