Bryan Singer’s latest film Red Sonja has been put on ice in the wake of sexual assault allegations made against him.
Filming on the director’s latest project was due to begin in Bulgaria later this year, but studio Millennium Films has dropped plans to do so.
The announcement comes after four men claimed he had sexually assaulted them while they were under-age – allegations that he has denied.
A spokesperson for Millennium Films said (via Variety): “The project is not on the slate at the moment and is not for sale at the European Film Market in Berlin.”
Avi Lerner, a producer on the film, previously insisted Red Sonja would be going ahead with Singer as director, telling The Hollywood Reporter: “I know the difference between agenda driven fake news and reality, and I am very comfortable with this decision.
“In America people are innocent until proven otherwise.”
The director previously branded the allegations printed in The Atlantic a “homophobic smear piece”, denying all of the accusations contained within it.
Singer recently served as director on Bohemian Rhapsody, but departed the project just weeks before filming was complete, with Dexter Fletcher taking over at the helm.
Last week, Bafta bosses took the steps of suspending Singer from the nomination for Outstanding British Film at the awards, in light of the accusations made against him.
Bafta commented that his alleged behaviour was “completely unacceptable and incompatible with its values”.
However, Bohemian Rhapsody was eventually beaten in the category by The Favourite on Sunday night.
At the event, replacement director Dexter Fletcher admitted the allegations made against Singer somewhat overshadowed the film’s success, while the film’s lead Rami Malek glossed over the controversy as he picked up the award for Best Actor.
