Car Demolishes Shortlands War Memorial In Beckenham, South East London, After Two-Car Collision

A woman was believed to have been injured in the accident.

A two-car crash on Friday led to a war memorial in south east London being destroyed.

The Shortlands War Memorial in Beckenham was flattened after a Mini Cooper smashed into it about 10.20am.

The Evening Standard said the memorial was knocked off its plinth after two cars collided on Kingswood Road, at the junction with Church Road.

It then broke into a number of pieces.

A woman was believed to have been injured in the crash, but her condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

Police attended the scene and a spokesman said investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

No arrests have been made.
