A man fatally injured after being struck in a three-car collision while walking his dog in Surrey has been named as Russian billionaire Dmitry Obretetsky, according to the country’s media.
Surrey Police have confirmed a man in his 40s was injured in the accident on November 25 at 4.45pm, and died five days later.
British authorities have so far declined to identify the victim but the Russian news agency Life named him as Obretetsky, a 49-year-old businessman.
One of his friends, Pavel Borovkov, questioned the circumstances around the death, saying: “You know, people drive cars very carefully in London. I don’t exclude the fact that he was specially shot down.”
Borovkov also told Life that Obretetsky lived in London but often returned to Russia for his work in real estate.
The dog, reportedly called Oscar, was also killed in the collision.
A Surrey Police spokesman said: “We can confirm that a man has sadly died following a collision in Warren Lane, Oxshott last week.
“The collision took place at around 4.45pm on November 25. It involved three vehicles and a pedestrian, who was walking a dog at the time. The dog died at the scene.
“The pedestrian, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries, but sadly died on November 30.
“The man’s next of kin have been informed. We are continuing to investigate the circumstances around the collision.
