EastEnders is welcoming back one of its greatest villains ever, as Lucas Johnson returns to Albert Square.

Don Gilet is reprising his role as the murderous character, who was last seen on screen in 2016.

Bosses have teased a gripping new storyline that will see him come face-to-face with ex-wife Denise Fox, who is played by Diane Parish.

Denise was previously held hostage in a basement by Lucas as he faked her suicide, as well as framing her for his crimes.

Speaking about returning to the soap, Don said: “I’m thrilled and honoured to be asked to breathe life once again into such a complex, controversial and divisive character but, most importantly, to have another opportunity to work alongside one of the UK’s finest actors, Diane Parish.

“I feel blessed.”

EastEnders executive producer Jon Sen added: “Bringing back Don to the square has been on our wish list for some time now as there’s definitely some unfinished business with Lucas and he certainly hasn’t let Denise go.

“His reign of terror put him firmly up there with Walford’s biggest villains and I can’t wait for audiences to watch his return unfold.”

Lucas first appeared on the BBC soap in 2008 and was sent to jail for his murders in 2010.

He was last seen in 2016 when he plotted to escape from prison.

Lucas will return to EastEnders later this year.
